The Team Manager role will provide overall operational management for a multi-disciplinary team of social workers and support workers/advisers to achieve the council's vision of maximizing independence, managing demand, and balancing the budget while promoting a strengths-based approach. The post holder will also play a key role in implementing corporate initiatives, ensuring legal, regulatory, and policy compliance, managing budgets, and developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities
Drive positive cultural change and promote council values
Ensure staff reach their full potential through an effective performance and development framework
Lead on corporate initiatives and transformation programmes
Represent the service in senior level meetings and deputise for head of service
Model a strengths-based approach in supporting staff and interacting with colleagues
Lead the team towards prevention, early intervention, and reduced need practices
Use negotiation and influencing skills with stakeholders to develop productive relationships.
Ensure effective financial management, cost controls, and income maximization
Ensure commissioned packages are cost-effective and focused on recovery
Ensure legal, regulatory, and policy compliance
Respond to member inquiries, complaints, etc.
Implement Departmental quality assurance programs and audits
Maintain service criteria and uphold dignity for all policies
Adhere to Social Work England standards of conduct and ethics
Lead and develop the team's operational management and objectives
Implement risk assessment and safeguarding processes
Develop key operational and performance reports
Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Work across adult social care and other Council services
Ensure staff is well managed and work according to operating procedures
Foster a culture of continuous learning and collaboration
Set ambitious practice standards and promote strengths-based conversations
Provide professional supervision to Senior Social Workers and other professions within the team.
Qualification
Diploma or Degree in Social Work
Needs relevant management/supervision qualifications
Enhanced satisfactory clearance from DBS
Extensive knowledge of the issues affecting young people with additional needs, the skills to support staff to manage these complex transitions across multiple services effectively.
Experience:
Senior experience in statutory public sector services working with people who have a range of social care needs and their family/carers.
Experience of delivering services to people with differing and diverse needs in an urban Local Authority/Borough
Experience of managing change within a fast-paced, resident-facing, statutory service
Experience of developing effective strategic partnerships, internal and external, including working with external providers, NHS, GPs, Emergency Services and the voluntary and community sector
Significant experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams including supporting qualified and non-qualified staff to develop and excel and supporting the development of strong teamwork and relationships across the team.
